Ryan Tunnicliffe admitted Rovers were far from at their best after tasting defeat to Brentford at the weekend.
A first league encounter at Griffin Park for over 35 years ended in disappointment as they slipped to a 3-1 loss against the Bees.
Tunnicliffe felt Rovers showed good character to keep going, but on this occasion left themselves with too much to do.
"Obviously every time you lose it is a disappointing day," said the midfielder after the game.
"We tried our hardest but probably over the 90 minutes they deserved the win if I'm being honest.
"We kept going at 3-1 down, we showed character, we tried to pin them back but overall they deserved the win."
For the fifth game in succession Rovers fell behind, and although Rudy Gestede's 12th of the season put the visitors back on level terms, two unanswered strikes in the second half saw Brentford put daylight between themselves and Rovers in the top-six quest.
"It is massively frustrating. We can't keep saying every week that we need to start bright. We can't keep going 1-0 down, especially away to a Brentford side who are flying.
"We created chances but we need to shore it up at the other end.
"We've now lost two in a row so we need to get back to winning ways at the weekend because we can't go into a dip of form, especially over the Christmas period.
"We've three games in eight days so if we win a large portion of them it will put us back where we want to be."
Rovers return to Ewood Park this Saturday for their pre-Christmas clash with Charlton Athletic.
