Paul Robinson was delighted the team were able to show both sides to their game in Saturday's 3-2 win over AFC Bournemouth at Ewood Park.
Rovers were at their attacking best in the first half as goals from Jordan Rhodes, Grant Hanley and Rudy Gestede put the home side in command, but then had to show resilience at the death as the Cherries forced a late comeback.
"Our first half performance was outstanding, I thought we played very well," Robinson told Radio Rovers after the game. "We were attacking freely, played a lot of football, mixed it up well.
"We knew what to expect in the second half as games never pan out the same way, but we were disappointed with the way we played.
"We wanted to push forward and get a fourth goal but credit to Bournemouth they put us under a lot of pressure in the first 10-15 minutes of that second half."
Rovers saw out that early second half pressure and were cruising towards victory until once again they were the recipient of a very soft penalty decision against them when Alex Baptiste was adjudged to have fouled Adam Smith in the box when no contact appeared to be made.
"I think another penalty decision has cost us," added Robinson. "I don't know what it is with us and referees at the moment, you've got to be completely honest, it wasn't a penalty again.
"It is very frustrating, especially in a game where you are 3-0 up and we feel we have weathered the storm then they get a penalty to give us a tough last few minutes.
"But we are pleased with the resilience, we are pleased we've ground out the three points which we needed after Tuesday.
"I think we've started this season well and I think there is more to come from us. We've just got to concentrate on putting the points on the board."
Rovers are back in action this Saturday when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Supporters are reminded that tickets have to be purchased from Rovers in advanced as there are no sales on the day of the game at the ground.
