Still in the race

7 April 2014

Rudy Gestede was pleased to see Rovers get back to winning ways after their 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The January signing from Cardiff City, made one and scored the second as Rovers maintained their play-off hopes with a vital home win.

The popular Frenchman hopes Rovers can continue to fight for each and every point and with six games remaining it could go to the wire in the chase for a top six place.

"Three points is the main thing," Gestede told Radio Rovers. "It proves we are still in the race and we still believe we can do something this season.

"We were against an Ipswich team that wants to get the play-offs as well, so it is a massive result for us."

After a goalless first half, the big front man showed a deft touch to play in Jordan Rhodes to open the scoring, and Gestede knew that his strike partner wouldn't miss.

"I've scored and have an assist so I am very happy," added Gestede. "It was a good goal from Jordan so I am happy for him because he can be top scorer this season if he continues like this, so I am happy to give him a goal. Any ball around the box he can put in so I wasn't surprise to see him score."

After setting up Rhodes for the first, Gestede then got amongst the goals himself, powering home a Craig Conway free-kick to secure all three points.

"Every time it is a good delivery, we need just to be on the move in the box to try to get to it," added the striker.

"We needed to keep going, I scored at the end like Watford. You need to believe that you can score any time and when you get the chance to take it.

"We are six games unbeaten so it is good to win and get the three points.

"The confidence is still high, we've got a big game on Tuesday, six big games coming, so we need to take the points. We have the ability and the quality to do it."
