Rudy: We're still in the battle

10 April 2014

Rudy Gestede believes Rovers' play-off chase remains firmly on after Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.

The Benin international opened the scoring with a thunderbolt effort after just nine minutes, with Tommy Spurr's strike early in the second half securing all three points.

The win sees Rovers keep pace with the teams above them in the table, four points off sixth place Reading.

"It was an amazing performance against QPR, it isn't easy to win against them," the striker told Radio Rovers.

"One more time we proved that we are still in the battle for the play-offs, we are still 11th but only four points from the play-off place.

"So we need to keep going, take the next game and beat Sheffield Wednesday away."

Gestede grabbed his 7th goal for Rovers since joining at the end of November, a 25-yard strike that gave Robert Green in the Rangers goal no chance. A goal the striker was delighted with.

"When I went in this area I knew I was free because the centre-back didn't follow me, so I had time to turn and I shot," explained Gestede.

"That is what we wanted, to score early in the game, we knew when you put pressure on them they didn't like it, it was in the plan and that has worked so everyone was happy.

"We knew that if we scored the second goal it was going to be easier for us, so we pushed and Tommy has done well with a good shot in the bottom corner, it was very good for us.

"I think we had chances to score more goals but 2-0 is already good, it could have been maybe three or four but we are happy.

"We need to keep winning the games, we are seven games unbeaten, two wins in a row, we need to keep this mentality, this mind and we'll see on the 3rd of May where we are."

Rovers are back in action at the weekend when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
