Rudy putting his 'best foot' forward

22 April 2014

Rudy Gestede admitted that he had to ask Jordan Rhodes what to do with the match ball after scoring a first hat-trick of his career.

The popular frontman scored a first-half treble of headers at St. Andrew's yesterday as Rovers brushed Birmingham City aside in a 4-2 win.

"It is my first hat-trick in my career," said a delighted Gestede. "I didn't know what I was supposed to do with the ball so I had to ask Jordan Rhodes.

"I'm very happy, more about the result because we won 4-2. It is a good result and we are two points off the play-offs now so it is going to be a good run until the end.

"I've scored ten goals now and eight of them have come with my head, it is my 'best foot' I'd say. I had a great chance with my foot and I missed it so I'm better with my head."

Gestede should have had more goals to his name after a missing a 6th minute chance. Josh King picking out the striker at the back post, but with the goal at his mercy he blazed over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

"Wow, what a miss!" admitted Gestede. "It was a good ball from Josh King, maybe I was too confident or hit it with too much power, I should have been more focussed on the ball, I missed it but it is behind me as I scored three.

"So if I could do that in every game then I'll be happy."

Despite that early miss Gestede was always confident that he would get further chances, with his hat-trick taking him to ten goals for Rovers since he arrived at the end of November.

The striker added: "I had a feeling after I scored the first goal, the game was very open and Kingy was doing a good job, Jordan and Craig as well. So I got the feeling we could score more goals and that is what we did.

"The manager asked me to get to double figures and now I have done this. I am very happy to have ten goals, I think it is my best since I started playing football, from January it isn't bad.

"There are two games left so hopefully I can score more goals for the team."
