Todd eyes England chance

9 September 2013

Todd Kane will hope it’s third time lucky when England’s Under-21s take on Finland this evening.

The Rovers right-back, who played a pivotal role in the back-to-back home wins over Barnsley and Bolton, has been an unused substitute in England’s last two games.

He watched on as the Young Lions thrashed Scotland 6-0 in a friendly last month and again missed out when Gareth Southgate’s side opened their new Euro qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory over Moldova on Thursday night.

An England Under-19 international, Kane will hope to get his chance at Under-21 level for the first time in Tampere.

Finland are currently top of Group 1 with seven points from their opening three games after winning 1-0 away in Lithuania last time out.

Also on Under-21 duty is fellow defender Anthony O’Connor. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Burton Albion, is with the Republic of Ireland squad for their top-of-the-table clash with Germany.

The two teams lead the way in Group 6 following convincing victories in their opening group games.
