Blackburn Rovers Community Trust have signed up former PNE professional Chris McGrail as their new Head of Futsal (Sport) and School Sport.
The 24-year-old will oversee and develop the Trust’s school sports programme and the new Futsal Scholarship, which kicked off this month.
The exciting and innovative two-year programme, which is both Futsal and Education based, provides a unique opportunity for 16 to 19-year-old football fans to study at Ewood Park and become a Blackburn Rovers Futsal Scholar.
Chris said: “It is a great opportunity for me to develop young players and I’m really looking forward to it.
“One of the key motivations for the lads is the winners of the North West League get to play against either Barcelona or Real Madrid. So that is a massive incentive both for me as a coach and for the lads as Futsal scholars.
“The setup here at the BRIC and over in the Education Centre is first class, so the lads will get unbelievable teaching and high quality coaching in Futsal.”
Chris will be tapping into his own expertise in the game, having signed professional terms with hometown team Preston North End in 2007.
After loan spells with Accrington Stanley, Chris was forced to retire from the game through injury and joined Preston’s Community Department, initially as a casual coach and volunteer, before rising up through the ranks.
It was during his time at Deepdale that he worked under the Community Trust’s Head of Sport Gary Robinson and he is delighted to be reunited with him here at Rovers.
The Trust are recruiting Futsal scholars for the 2014-15 season from now until next summer, so anyone who would like any further information should contact Chris on 01254 296122 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
