Who has the golden boot?

1 October 2013

The Football League’s title sponsor talks us through the top goalscorer betting after the Sky Bet Championship’s leading marksmen netted again over the weekend.

Jordan Rhodes is the 11/4 favourite to finish the season at the head of the scoring charts after scoring his seventh and eighth goals of the campaign in Blackburn’s 3-1 win over 10-man Bournemouth.

The 23-year-old narrowly missed out on the accolade last season as he bagged 29 times, just one short of Crystal Palace’s Glenn Murray.

Having scored over half of his side’s goals this season, Rhodes currently sits joint top of the charts alongside James Vaughan, who netted on Friday night.

However, the Huddersfield marksman could have had a brace to his name having missed a late penalty in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool.

The former Everton striker was available at 66/1 to be the league’s top scorer at the start of the season but has now been cut to 6/1 following his fine start.

Watford’s Troy Deeney follows in the betting at 8/1 having netted six times so far, while QPR’s Charlie Austin (12/1) and Burnley’s Danny Ings (14/1) boast the same tally after also notching over the weekend.

Ipswich frontman David McGoldrick is 18/1 after scoring his fourth and fifth goals of the season in the Tractor Boys’ 2-0 win over Brighton, while Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban is a hefty 33/1 despite having the same amount of goals to his name this campaign.

The Sky Bet Championship action resumes on Tuesday night, with lethal marksmen Rhodes and Deeney going head-to-head as Rovers host Watford.

The duo are 100/30 to both find the net with Rhodes 7/2 favourite to open the scoring followed by Deeney at 4/1.
