Terry McPhillips admitted Rovers weren't at their best as they progressed through to the last eight of the Lancashire Senior Cup courtesy of a 3-2 win over Rochdale.
A closely fought contest played in wet and windy conditions at Brockhall made it a hardworking encounter for both sides, a game that Rovers just edged.
"The conditions weren't great, the pitch was heavy, the wind was howling," McPhillips told Rovers Player.
"We played against an enthusiastic Rochdale team with some first-teamers and some young lads that are chomping at the bit, but it was good to get 90 minutes for some of the boys who haven't had a game in a few weeks.
"I thought we got better in the second half, but I think overall we know we can do better than that.
"We lost in this round last year to Oldham, we're not daft, we know it can be a bit of a banana skin playing at our training ground.
"Against Rochdale, top of their league, they have some good players that can't get in their team. Some good young lads, a good squad, and I thought they came and give us a right good go, played some football and made some chances."
