Rovers today welcome a very special guest to Ewood Park – Lancashire’s new Bishop, Rt Rev. Julian Henderson.
It is his first official engagement following his inauguration service at Blackburn Cathedral this morning, which was attended by over 1,000 people, including many local and regional leaders and dignitaries.
The Bishop of Blackburn, who will be presented to the crowd at half-time, said: "It is a great privilege to move to Lancashire from Surrey to enjoy the delights of the county. My wife Heather and I have come to the diocese in response to a call from God through His church to serve both His people in Blackburn and the whole wider community in Lancashire. We do so joyfully with a real sense of expectation and excitement.
“We were delighted to be invited by Rovers to attend the match this afternoon and wish Rovers every success in this game and for the rest of the season.”
A Rovers spokesman added: “We were delighted Bishop Julian and his family were able to accept our invitation to attend today’s match and particularly so as it will be his first appointment after the inauguration service.
“Football fans everywhere, not just at Rovers, will appreciate this gesture and we ask all the fans attending Ewood Park to make the new Bishop feel at home by giving him a traditional warm Lancashire welcome.”
