A once in a lifetime opportunity

21 October 2013

Blackburn Rovers is pleased to announce that it is now actively recruiting and signing up young people in the local area for the brand new, once in a lifetime opportunity, NCS (National Citizen Service) scheme.

NCS is created for 16 and 17-year-old male and females, with the aim of building confidence, meeting new people, learning new skills and then putting it into practice by creating and managing a social action project.

Get on it today!

Recruitment is now underway for the October half term scheme which runs from Friday 25th October to Friday 1st November with social action projects taking place across the following four Saturdays.

For just £35 deposit, returnable on completion of the project (or free if you are eligible for free school/college meals) you’ll spend four days / three nights away from home (25th-28th October), getting to know your teams and building your responsibility, independence and giving you challenges to face at Lockerbie Manor in the south of Scotland.

All accommodation, transport and meals on the residential are completely FREE! You’ll then return from this exciting adventure to take part in activities within Blackburn, you will start working in and around the town deciding, planning and carrying out your own social action projects. Plus any young adult who enrols on the programme will receive two FREE match tickets for a Blackburn Rovers home match and a FREE Blackburn Rovers hoodie!

Chris McGrail, NCS Coordinator: "Any young adult who joins our NCS project here at Blackburn Rovers will no doubt have a fantastic and fun time. Added to this they will also be able to put something back in to the heart of their community.

“Heading out on the first residential only knowing a handful of people, all these 16 and 17-year-olds will noticeably became part of a tight-knit family. Doing activities like rifling, rock climbing, canoeing, archery and zip wire, together with staff and participants alike, being cheered on by their team mates."

Recruitment for the October course is just starting for those who are 16 or 17-years-old. More information and a video of NCS in action can be found at or contact Chris directly on 01254 296256 or email
