Rudy right for Rovers

27 November 2013

Gary Bowyer believes he has added experience and enthusiasm with the signing of Rudy Gestede.

The manager yesterday bolstered his Blackburn Rovers squad with the arrival of the striker from Cardiff City, initially signing on loan until January with a view to a permanent deal.

"I think he is a great addition to the squad," said the Rovers boss. "It has taken a lot of hard work, and like we've said all along it was important that we found the right person as well.

"He's a top lad and everybody that we have spoken to speaks very highly of him.

Bowyer has made no secret of his desire to secure the services of an additional forward and in Gestede the manager believes he'll add the required physicality to the Rovers front line.

"Everybody knows that we've been looking for a big man and at 6' 4" he certainly fits that bill," added Bowyer. "But he's not just a big target man, he has great movement, he's very good in the air and he's got a decent spring on him.

"So he'll bring a physical presence to our forward line. It has been something that we've been looking for and we are delighted that he's in the building and raring to go.

"He played his part for Cardiff in getting them promotion and he brings the mentality of that, which is something that is important to us when we are looking at recruiting the right types.

"He's keen to share those experiences with our lads and we're just hoping that he come in and settle in and get cracking with playing football and scoring some goals for us.

"He's not been brought in to replace Jordan Rhodes, you look at the firepower that we have now in the squad it is going to be an interesting month for us that is for sure.

"A lot of work has gone into it, and we again thank Cardiff for their patience and help with it. These things are never easy and they don't get done very quickly, so we are delighted that we've had the patience and kept persevering with him and now we've got our man."

Subject to international clearance, Gestede could make his Rovers debut this weekend against Leeds United at Ewood Park. Tickets for Saturday's match are currently on sale to database members priced from £19 Adults, £12 Seniors and £7 Juniors. Book online today at
