Development squad boss Eric Kinder was delighted to see his young side progress in the Under-21 Premier League Cup.
Rovers left it late to knock out Hull City at Leigh Sports Village, an even game had seen the match at 1-1 going into the final couple of minutes, but a Jordan Slew penalty and a cool finish from Hugo Fernandez moments later saw them through.
"We haven't won many games this season so it is always a nice feeling to win a football match, that is what it is all about," Kinder told Rovers Player.
"I thought with our second half performance we deserved to go through, it didn't look it was going to finish in 90 minutes, and we were already planning for extra-time, but luckily we get the break with the penalty which Jordan sticks away well.
"Then we have a terrific goal at the end, the pressure is off Hugo but it is a hell of a finish, a bit of class.
"It was nice to get it over with in 90 minutes, it was an even game, you knew there was another goal in the last ten minutes, you just didn't know which way."
