Academy suffer heavy loss

4 November 2013

A first half to forget saw Rovers hit for six by Fulham on Saturday.

The young Rovers found themselves 4-0 down by the break after being totally outplayed by a rampant Fulham side.

A combination of poor defending and good play by the Cottagers saw them well in control. and although Rovers stemmed the tide somewhat in the second half, a more defensive formation performing better than the first, they still conceded two further goals to make it a comprehensive defeat.

"We were second best in all departments," said coach David Lowe.

"At half-time a few home truths were said and we managed to restrict them to only two further goals.

"We have another big test on Saturday when we face the league leaders Manchester United at Brockhall.

"A plus to come out of this is that playing top opposition week in, week out, shows how far the players have to go and how hard they have to work to reach the standards required to be a professional footballer."

ROVERS: Williams, Vicars (c), Langford, Butterwick, Lavelle, Wassi, Joel (sub Wall 80 mins), Torres (sub Tanner 70 mins), Preston, Harris (sub Pierce 60 mins), Cham.

Subs not used: Fisher, Edo.
