Ewood return for ‘showpiece’ friendly

17 May 2013

Blackburn Rovers is to re-introduce the prestigious ‘curtain-raiser’ fixture at Ewood Park ahead of the 2013-14 Championship campaign.

The club, which today revealed its pre-season schedule, is looking to confirm the friendly - against Premier League opposition on Saturday July 27th - by the end of next week.
“The home friendly a week ahead of the season proper was always well received with supporters,” said Paul Agnew, operations director. “It has been missing for a few years and we felt it was time to restore it. We have worked hard to find the right fixture and we expect to be able to confirm the opposition within the next few days.

“The pre-season list will offer plenty of opportunities for supporters to see the players in action and we are delighted with the overall format of the schedule.”

Rovers kick-off preparations with a trip to Conference side Wrexham on Saturday 6th July before jetting off to Portugal for a training camp with the possibility of a competitive match during the week-long stay.
