Canaries wings clipped once more

7 May 2013

Rovers' Under-18s wrapped up their league campaign on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Norwich City.

First half strikes from Jordan Preston and Yeray Torres put Rovers in control and whilst a young Canaries side rallied late, David Lowe's side clinched the win, their fourth over Norwich City this season.

Rovers were quick out of the blocks at Warwick University, racing into a two-goal lead inside 25 minutes.

The opening goal came on 20 when a free-kick into the Norwich box was only half cleared and as the ball ran lose Jordan Preston finished smartly with a sweet left foot finish.

Five minutes later the advantage was doubled, Rovers catching the Canaries in possession and as the ball was fed through to Yeray Torres he cooly slotted home.

Rovers could and perhaps should have had further goals as they continued to force the pace, but wastefulness in possession and poor finishing almost proved costly when Norwich reduced the deficit ten mintues from time.

That sparked a spell of pressure from Norwich in the closing stages but Rovers held strong to end their season with a win.

"To be fair to Norwich they had a young side out," said David Lowe after the game. "But we should have had more goals, we failed to capitalise on the chances we made, we weren't ruthless enough around the penalty areas.

"It is pleasing to end the season with a win, the boys have worked really hard since the turn of the year and have done really well.

"It is now up to them to take that into next season."
