Rovers 1-1 Blackpool
A 22nd goal of the season from Jordan Rhodes rescued a point for Rovers after a hardworking encounter at Ewood Park.
The Rovers striker struck eleven minutes from time to cancel out Gary Mackenzie's second half goal that had given the visitors the lead past the hour mark.
Both sides had chances to win the game, David Jones and Joshua King going close for Rovers, whilst the visitors were twice denied by Jake Kean who saved well from Thomas Ince and Nathan Delfouneso. Rovers also had strong claims for a penalty after substitute Colin Kazim-Richards was pushed in the area.
But in the end the point was a fair result between the two sides.
Gary Bowyer made three changes for the first game of his second spell in charge. Josh Morris, Lee Williamson and Joshua King were the three coming in, whilst Cameron Stewart and Leon Best dropped to the bench, Martin Olsson missed out through injury.
That meant a first start for Josh Morris and a first Ewood outing for midfielder Lee Williamson.
On a chilly Lancashire afternoon it was the visitors who started the brighter of the two sides, it took an important block from Scott Dann to prevent former Rover Matt Derbyshire from opening his account for Blackpool.
Grant Hanley was a whisker wide with a scramble from a corner kick, the ball bouncing around the box before reaching the Scot, but he snatched at the chance.
Both sides continued to create opportunities, David Dunn and Jordan Rhodes for Rovers, Matt Phillips twice going close for the visitors.
Attacking the Blackburn End Rovers were the team in the ascendency at the start of the second half with two gilt-edged chances.
On 54 minutes a deflection saw the ball break to David Jones in the area, he took the ball around Matt Gilks, but from an ever tightening angle he fired over the bar.
Two minutes later and another Rovers chance went begging, the impressive Todd Kane attacking on the overlap to cross for Joshua King but he struck his shot into the ground and it bounced over the bar.
Those missed chances proved to be costly as the Seasiders grabbed the opening goal on 65 minutes.
It came from a corner after a Ludovic Sylvestre shot was tipped away by Jake Kean. Tom Ince delivering deep to the back post to where Alex Baptiste's header was saved by Kean but defender Gary Mackenzie forced the ball home from close-range. Rovers were aggreived as it looked like the Blackpool defender had fouled Jason Lowe in the build-up.
Rovers pressed for a way back into the game with a deserved equaliser coming with eleven minutes to go.
A short corner saw Todd Kane and Lee Williamson combine and as Kane headed across the area Jordan Rhodes broke free of his marker to head past Gilks.
Rovers pressed for the winner with substitute Leon Best a whisker away from netting his first goal for the club, the striker firing narrowly wide with a shot across goal.
Then at the other end Rovers needed Jake Kean to make an important save after good work from Thomas Ince, Kean diving to his right to push the shot away.
On 89 minutes Rovers had strong claims for a penalty waved away when Colin Kazim-Richards was pushed from behind in the box. Just like the previous encounter when Jordan Rhodes had taken a boot to the face, had the contact taken place outside the area then a free-kick would have undoubtedly been given.
The last chance of the match came from the visitors as they, like Rovers, pressed for a winner. Nathan Delfouneso ghosting between the defenders to head goalwards but Kean was well-placed to tip over the bar.
The point was a welcome one, but Rovers will have been disappointed that they couldn't make it three.
