A difficult day

10 March 2013

Michael Appleton hailed his side's battling qualities through adversity as they drew 0-0 with Millwall in the FA Cup with Budweiser quarter-final.

A patched-up Rovers side had to contend with losing both recognised right-backs through injury during the game as Adam Henley limped out with a hamstring whilst Bradley Orr sustained a rib injury.

Despite the disruption the manager was delighted with the way Rovers stuck to the task to earn a reply at Ewood Park on Wednesday night.

"It was a difficult day for us, I've lost two right backs through injury," said Appleton.

"The team has had to chop and change constantly throughout the game, it could have been quite easy for the players to rollover, but they didn't, they stood strong.

"We switched off once in the game which nearly cost us but ultimately I thought it was thoroughly deserved to get them back to Ewood.

"With the amount of changes we had to make on the day, to really limit them to one opportunity, which was offside, and long-range shots then we are delighted."
