Learn from last season

19 June 2013

Lee Williamson believes that is important to take the lessons from last year and ensure that they are heeded in the forthcoming campaign.

The experienced midfielder knows that Rovers will have to give 100% in all matches if they are to have a successful campaign in 2013-14.

"It isn't an easy league," Williamson told Rovers Player. "I know it has been some time since Blackburn have been out of the top flight, so to drop down into the Championship we've got to learn from it.

"You can't take your foot off the pedal at any stage of the season, that showed last season. It is so easy to get drawn into a relegation fight and we've got to stay away from that.

"You've got to learn from last season, we've got a big strong squad and if we learn from it quickly we can put it right."

The players return to pre-season next Thursday and Williamson knows the importance of putting in the hard yards during the five weeks preparation before the big season kick-off against Derby County.

"It isn't the nice part of football but it has got to be done," added Williamson.

"Especially with the game nowadays, it is fast and everyone is fit so those inches make a big difference.

"You've got to get off to a good start and that starts with pre-season. It isn't just the start of the playing season.

"It is going to be good, it is going to be exciting, not a lot of players like pre-season but it has got to be done."
