King in contention

11 June 2013

Josh King will be vying for his first taste of Euro Under-21 action this evening when Norway take on Italy.

The Rovers forward is yet to feature in the tournament after being called up by the senior side for a World Cup qualifier away to Albania.

Having linked up with his Under-21 team-mates in Israel at the weekend, the former Manchester United man will now hope to help Norway secure top spot in Group A with victory over the Azzurrini.

Tor Ole Skullerud’s team need only a point to make absolutely sure of progress to the semi-finals after moving three points clear of Israel with a 3-1 victory over England on Saturday.

Indeed, only a six-goal swing would see them miss out on a semi-final spot should they lose to the impressive Italians.

England have nothing but pride to play for in their final group game against hosts Israel.

Stuart Pearce’s side were eliminated from the competition following disappointing defeats to Italy and Norway, but Rovers midfielder Jason Lowe insists the Young Lions will be looking to end their European Championship campaign ‘on a high’.

Jason has started England’s opening two fixtures at the finals and will hope to pull on the famous shirt one last time at Under-21 level tonight.

Martin Olsson is unlikely to feature for Sweden tonight in their World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands, having only recently recovered from injury.
