Manager Gary Bowyer was the guest of honour as one of Blackburn’s flagship department stores officially opened its new premises to the public.
The Rovers boss was on hand as the Debenhams outlet in The Mall unveiled its multi-million pound refurbishment and extension.
Improvements include an enlarged store entrance, new flooring, lighting and internal finishes, while the retail space has increased to 90,000 sq ft, across three floors.
Store Manager Matt Cooper was delighted Gary could find time in his busy pre-season preparations to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
He said: “On behalf of Debenhams, I’d like to say a big thank you to Gary for taking time out of his busy schedule to come down and see the newly-refurbished store, along with the Mayor and the Mayoress.
“To create that theatre and that buzz around the place was great to see. The crowd reacted to it, the staff are really up for it now and hopefully for the people of Blackburn, it will help to move us forward in the long term.”
Gary said: “It’s good that we can get out and about in the community. I can sense that there’s a feel-good factor going around the place at the minute – not just down at the training ground, but at Ewood and now here in the town centre. Long may it continue.”
