Bowyer’s backroom team takes shape

10 June 2013

Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has confirmed three key additions to his backroom team – including the return of a familiar face to the club.

Having stepped up from their roles at the Academy to assist Bowyer during his two spells in caretaker charge last season, Terry McPhillips and Tony Grant have now been promoted full-time to the senior setup.

McPhillips takes on the role of assistant manager and Grant comes in as first team coach.

Bowyer has also secured the services of Carlisle United’s highly-respected Head of Youth Eric Kinder, who was an Academy coach at Rovers from 1999 to 2006, before moving north to Brunton Park.

Kinder returns to Rovers as Under-21 head coach, where he will be assisted by Colin Hendry.

Bowyer said: “I am delighted to have Terry and Tony with me again because they played a massive part in what we did last season in keeping the club up.

“They are both very hard working and share the same values as myself. They look forward to pushing the club forward and are determined to make this a success.

“It is important that you try and get people who care about the club or have an affiliation with it, and Eric certainly has that. He was here when I arrived nine years ago and we have always remained in touch.

“It is a very good appointment for us, because Carlisle have produced a number of players through Eric’s youth team and whilst I’m sure they’ll be sad to see him go, we are delighted to have him on board.”
