Life-long fan John Turner admitted it was a ‘proud and emotional moment’ to see his business brand on the front of the famous Rovers shirt.
John is the Chief Executive Officer of RFS, who this week agreed to become Rovers’ new shirt sponsor on an initial one-year deal.
The 48-year-old, who has been coming to games at Ewood Park since the age of 10, joined Rovers stars Jordan Rhodes, Alan Judge and Chris Taylor for a special signing session in the Roverstore and was delighted to see the RFS name up in lights.
“It’s a life-long dream,” said John, who first entered into a commercial partnership with the club in November with the stand sponsorship of the Riverside.
“We’ve got a very successful company that’s expanding and growing year-on-year and to be able to sponsor and put your brand, that you’ve built and designed, on your hometown team’s shirt is fantastic. I’m still pinching myself!
“I’m born and bred Blackburn. I went to school in Blackburn. I grew up in the Mill Hill area, so this is my club. My dad still lives in Blackburn. My mum passed away a few years ago, but I used to bring her down to watch games, so it means a lot to me. It’s very dear to my heart.
“I called round to see my dad for a brew before I came down to Ewood and he said that my mum would be very proud. It brought a lump to my throat, so seeing the shirts with the RFS logo on for the first time was a very proud and emotional moment for me.
“To be able to put your own brand on the club shirt and especially in a season like the 125-year anniversary of the Football League, it’s just really special. Seeing it on the website the other night, it was just very surreal. I just hope the team have a really good season.”
