Keep picking up the points

17 January 2013

Maintaining a healthy haul of points is key to gaining promotion.

With four consecutive home games coming up, new Rovers boss Michael Appleton knows the importance of making results count at Ewood Park to climb further up the table

Charlton Athletic are the visitors to Ewood this Saturday, with npower Championship matches against Brighton, Bristol City and Ipswich Town all following in quick succession in what could prove to be a pivotal few weeks for the club.

Rovers go into the weekend match off the back of a four-match unbeaten run with Appleton believing that if the club are to maintain their promotion ambitions they have to continue to pick up a steady stream of points.

"If you have the ambitions to be in the promotion shake-up with maybe half a dozen games to go then you need to start picking up results very very quickly and maintaing as many points as you can," Appleton told Rovers Player.

"It is difficult picking points up in this division and you've just got to keep grinding them out and then obviously it becomes a bit of a dogfight towards the end but you've got to be there to be in it and if you are in it then who knows?

"The play-offs aren't a million miles away, there have been plenty of teams that have gone on late surges towards the end of the season and just got them into the play-offs."
