Everyone can play a part

18 January 2013

Michael Appleton believes everyone associated with the football club must come together to help achieve the collective goal of promotion back to the Premier League.

Ahead of his first game in charge at Ewood Park against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, the new Rovers boss knows the importance of a united front and has called on the supporters to 'play their part'.

"Ultimately if we are to get back to the Premier League it has to be a combined effort," said Appleton.

"The players obviously are in more control than anyone to let destiny take its course, but the fans do play a massive part and they are going to have to play a massive part because we want to turn Ewood into a fortress again. They are going to have to get behind the players.

"If it is a smaller amount of fans that turn out compared to what it was maybe two or three years ago then hopefully over time the word will get round that we've got a group of players here, a group of staff who work their socks off every day, that there's no stone unturned and that preparation is absolutely spot on.

"If word gets round and people are feeling good about the football club again and they still continue to come then maybe they'll tell their friends and maybe they'll say that these guys are having a right good go for us here and deserve backing.

"You never know, we might get to a situation where we have a full house again."
