Captain fantastic

7 January 2013

Gary Bowyer has heaped praise on Rovers captain Danny Murphy after his goalscoring display on Saturday.

Murphy fired Rovers into an early lead as the club went on to defeat Bristol City 2-0 in the FA Cup third round, with Bowyer delighted with the midfielder's contribution throughout the victory.

"I'm delighted for Danny Murphy," Bowyer told Radio Rovers. "Since myself and Terry have been put in charge he has been brilliant.

"He's had great support for us and on Friday, as a cup winner, he was reminding the lads just how special the FA Cup is.

"He scored his goal and then after that I thought he was excellent, especially in the first half as I thought we were a little bit open.

"Danny was tremendous, I'm delighted for him, I can't praise him enough, he was all over the pitch covering and tackling. He was brilliant."

Rovers are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
