Victory over Bristol City in the cup makes it a hat-trick of wins for Gary Bowyer
Boss Gary Bowyer was once again left to sing the praises of the players after they made it a hat-trick of wins with the 2-0 FA Cup victory over Bristol City at Ewood Park.
Since taking over as caretaker manager just over a week ago, Bowyer has overseen league victories over Barnsley and Nottingham Forest and Rovers made it three wins in seven days with a routine cup win.
The tie was really never in doubt once Danny Murphy had fired Rovers in front after just seven minutes. But as chance after chance slipped through Rovers' grasp there was always a chance Bristol City could spring a shock.
However Grant Hanley's third goal of the campaign just ahead of the hour mark settled any doubts as Rovers booked their place in Sunday's draw.
"At the start of the game we wanted to get through to the next round and that is what we have done," Bowyer told Radio Rovers after the game.
"We had the added bonus of an early goal and that settled us down quickly.
"We needed the second goal, Bristol City kept going, they've got a threat up front so we needed Grant's goal.
"To be fair to Grant at youth level he always contributed with goals and this time last year he scored at Old Trafford so he must like this time of year.
"It was an important result because it just keeps that momentum, we spoke with the players yesterday and we were honest with them and said we didn't want an 'after the Lord Mayor's show' performance, but I felt they were magnificent once more, the energy and the character showed was truly tremendous. It was a great way to finish the week.
"I'm sounding a bit repetitive but I can't praise the players enough, it has been an emotional week, they'll deserve their days off this week and we'll go again against Wolves next Friday."
