Rovers' Under-21s suffered a second successive defeat as they lost 2-0 away at Aston Villa on Monday night.
Second half goals from Villa pair Alfie Crooks and Callum Robinson saw Gary Bowyer's side lose at Hinckley FC.
The opening half was devoid of goalmouth action, Villa defender Danny Devine going close with two headers early on, whilst a shot from Hugo Fernandez for Rovers was the sole sum of efforts at goal in the first 45 minutes.
Thankfully the second was a much livelier affair although it would see Rovers finish on the losing side.
It had started brightly enough, full back Peter Wylie charging forward to unleash a fierce shot at goal from distance only for it to just clear the upright.
The home side responded by taking the lead on 52 minutes, Daniel Johnson with a cross that was glanced home by Crooks, the ball creeping past Matty Urwin in the Rovers goal.
Moments later Villa went in search of more, Urwin pulling off a tremendous save to deny Callum Robinson.
Rovers went close to evening up the scores just past the hour mark when from a Robbie Cotton run Raheem Hanley struck the post with a shot, but it would be as close as Rovers would come as the game was settled by a second for Aston Villa with 13 minutes remaining, Robinson again letting fly from distance, this time Urwin had no chance.
Rovers pressed for a way back into the game but they couldn't breach a resolute Villa defence.
"It was disappointing in terms of our lack of goal threat in the first half with the blustery conditions," said Reserve boss Gary Bowyer.
"We conceded two very soft goals. We're at home to Chelsea next Monday night and we need to do a lot better."
