Leicester City 3-0 Rovers
Rovers slipped to their second successive away loss as they were defeated 3-0 by Leicester City.
Like the loss at Hull seven days earlier, crosses into the box proved to be Rovers' downfall as Chris Wood and Harry Kane scored first half headers, before Andy King added a third from another corner at the end of the 90 to make it a miserable visit to the east midlands.
Rovers had threatened early with Kasper Schmeichel saving superbly to deny Morten Gamst Pedersen, but it was a rare effort on target as the visitors struggled at the King Power Stadium.
Rovers made just the one change from the side that drew with Leeds United on Saturday.
it was an enforced change as Colin Kazim-Richards missed out with the ankle injury sustained in that match, Morten Gamst Pedersen, his replacement on Saturday, returned to the starting eleven.
Despite the freezing conditions it was a bright opening at the King Power Stadium, Harry Kane and Anthony Knockaert going close for the hosts, whilst David Bentley had two long-range efforts that flashed narrowly wide.
Andy King headed wide from a corner kick, whilst from a Danny Murphy corner the ball came out to Morten Gamst Pedersen who struck goalwards, the ball deflected as it made it's route wrong-footing Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal but the Dane pulled off a outstanding save to readjust and tip the ball over the bar.
The home side hit back with Knockaert testing Kean who palmed wide before Danny Drinkwater fizzed an effort narrowly over.
The home side kept building the pressure, Chris Wood with a shot blocked, Ben Marshall denied by Kean.
From the resulting corner kick Wood saw his overhead kick stopped on the line, Michael Keane somehow firing the rebound over the bar from close range.
Just before the half hour the pressure eventually told Ben Marshall getting the better of Karim Rekik on the right before crossing perfectly for Chris Wood to head home inside a packed six-yard box.
With Rovers struggling to gain any forward momentum it was only a matter of time before a second was added. It arrived on 42 minutes with Marshall again the provider, this time from a corner, Harry Kane the man to bundle the ball home for his first Leicester goal.
It could have been worse had Chris Wood not fired over when through on goal in added time, as the referee Geoff Eltringham blew for the half time whistle, Rovers had plenty to do.
Michael Appleton responded by making two substitutions at the ahead of the restart as Adam Henley and Markus Olsson replaced Karim Rekik and Morten Gamst Pedersen in a double left-sided change.
Despite those changes it was down the Rovers left that Leicester continued to threaten, Danny Drinkwater sending a ball from right to left to where Harry Kane controlled before firing wide, then Ben Marshall cut onto his left foot to let fly but his shot was over Jake Kean's crossbar.
David Bentley was seeing more of the ball but it just wasn't happening for Rovers further forward as DJ Campbell and Jordan Rhodes struggled to gain possession in front of goal.
Jordan Rhodes was sacrificed on 72 minutes as Nuno Gomes was introduced to add some creativity up front. Markus Olsson had a couple of long-range attempts but Schmeichel wasn't troubled.
At the other end Jake Kean was called upon to make yet another important save as Leicester sub' Lloyd Dyer intercepted a Jason Lowe pass the race into the area only to be denied by the goalkeeper's legs.
Two minutes from time Kean was at it again, diving to push Ben Marshall's curling free-kick over the bar.
Deep into added time the inevitable third duly arrived, Andy King arriving late into the box to meet Martyn Waghorn's corner kick to complete a miserable evening for Rovers.
