Reserves draw with Curzon

7 August 2013

Rovers' Under-21s put in an improved display on Tuesday evening as they drew 1-1 with Curzon Ashton.

Against a lively Curzon side, who have impressed this pre-season, it was Rovers who took the lead just past the half hour when a long diagonal ball found Devarn Green and he finished well with a strike across the 'keeper.

However on the stroke of half-time the home side equalised. A corner was played short and as the ball was whipped into the area poor marking allowed Simon Woodford to head home.

The second half saw Rovers create two or three good openings but they failed to trouble the scoreline.

"I'm pleased with the performance and pleased with the tempo that we played the game," said coach Eric Kinder. "It was a good a response off the back of a poor display at Northwich on Saturday.

"We probably should have won the game again, we created chances but we didn't take them.

"I was pleased with the Academy lads again, Bradley Bauress did well and Devarn Green is getting better with every match."

One other bright point on Tuesday evening was the return to action of Adam Henley. The defender has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury towards the end of last season, but featured for 30 minutes against Curzon.

"The plan was to always give Adam 30 minutes," added Kinder. "He did well and looked comfortable, he could have played on for longer. We'll continue to build up his minutes as he gets back to full fitness.

"We now move onto Friday and the game against Lancaster City."
