Ladies ready for league start

25 August 2013

Rovers Ladies assistant manager Matt Craddock believes he has inherited a strong squad, as the team prepare for Sunday’s season opener against newly-promoted Bradford City.

Matt arrived at the club in the summer, alongside manager John Prince, and the new management duo have guided Rovers to some impressive pre-season results.

The 28-year-old is now looking forward to getting the new FA Women’s Premier League season underway, at their new Darwen home, this weekend.
“Firstly, I would like to thank AFC Darwen for welcoming us to the club. Their hard work and dedication has created a fantastic ground that I am sure will host some exciting football this season for Blackburn Rovers Ladies.

“Our philosophy centres around developing creative players, who value possession and can play under pressure. The standard of players at this club is exceptional, from the first team through to the Centre of Excellence – and we are keen to support this development and progression of the players here.

“We have inherited a strong group of players and with the addition of a few others, have a great squad with huge potential.

“Throughout pre-season, we have grown together as a group, where the players have had the opportunity to shape the team and our philosophy – and together, we will progress. We hope to have a team that play some exciting attacking football, who will dominate possession. It won’t happen overnight, but we know we have the players capable of delivering.
“We look forward to welcoming Steve Winterburn and his Bradford City team to the Anchor Ground. The FA Women’s Premier League (Northern Division) looks a strong, competitive league this year and so we expect a tough game against Bradford. I am sure it will be played in the right way and I hope that the supporters have some exciting football to watch.”

Kick-off at the Anchor Ground is at 2pm. All supporters are welcome. Admission is priced at just £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
