Nichol Forster scored twice as Rovers Ladies shot to the top of the table with a 4-0 win over Bradford City on the opening day of the new Northern Division season.
Playing their first competitive match at their new Darwen home, Rovers produced an impressive second-half performance to get their season up and running in style.
A tight first half sprung to life 10 minutes before the break when Forster received the ball with her back to goal, before turning and firing a fantastic shot into the bottom corner all in one movement.
The introduction of Lagan Makin and Steph Marsh after the restart injected fresh impetus into Rovers’ play and the hosts soon doubled their advantage.
Marsh lofted a free-kick into the box, the ball bypassed players from both sides and sailed into the top corner.
Katie Anderton added a third after some neat individual skill, before Forster completed the scoring – firing home the rebound after Marsh had cut in from the left and hit the bar.
Assistant manager Matt Craddock said: “Overall, it was a very pleasing start to the season.
“Once we matched their work rate, our quality shone through and we scored four very good goals, which shows our attacking intent.
“I was particularly pleased with the concentration we showed to keep a clean sheet, because they put us under a bit of pressure late on, but our goalkeeper and defenders were determined not to concede.”
