Rovers' Under-21s finished their pre-season campaign with a goalless draw with Lancaster City on Friday night.
Eric Kinder's side had the better of the play for long spells, but clear-cut chances were at a premium for both sides in a match in which defences were on top.
Academy striker Jordan Preston made his first appearance at Under-21 level and had the two best chances in an otherwise tight first half.
The young forward took a good touch to burst through on 26 minutes but his near-post shot was saved.
Three minutes later Preston squeezed his way past the attentions of two defenders to get his shot away but the Lancaster 'keeper was equal to his efforts.
Darren Peacock's Dolly Blues had a quiet first half in terms of goal mouth action, but four minutes into the second half Rovers' 'keeper David Raya had to be alert to keep a shot at bay.
Then just past the hour mark Raya had to save well with his legs as the home side threatened once more.
As the match wore on Rovers had more of the play but as has often been the case this pre-season were wasteful in front of goal.
Trialist Myles Hippolyte had three opportunities, firing over when well placed after good work from substitute Curtis Haley, before seeing two shots fly well wide of goal.
Youngster Deniz Pero had the last chance of the night but his low drive was comfortably saved.
The Under-21s are back in action this Monday afternoon when they travel to the Midlands to face West Bromwich Albion in their opening Barclays Under-21 Premier League match.
