Coming into contention

22 August 2013

Boss Gary Bowyer is delighted to see Adam Henley well on the road to recovery.

The 19-year-old defender hasn't featured for the first team since sustaining a hamstring injury in the FA Cup quarter-final with Millwall back in March, but after coming through 80 minutes in an Under-21 league match on Monday the manager is pleased that Henley won't be far off coming into first team contention.

"It is massive for us, he has done ever so well," said Bowyer.

"Unfortunately for us last year he suffered the blow, a double blow in fact, and he has worked very very hard over the summer.

"Hopefully he is coming back into contention because he provides good competition for Todd Kane and he's an excellent player in himself.

"Todd knows that he's got to step his game up to keep Adam out and that is healthy for the club."

Whilst Henley could be the first of the injured players to return to action, the Rovers boss is hopeful that Lee Williamson, Matt Kilgallon and DJ Campbell won't be too far behind.

"Lee Williamson isn't bad, he's getting closer and closer, DJ is still a couple of weeks but he is progressing nicely as well.

"They are important players for us because we are a young team and there are some experience missing.

"There's those two, there's Matt Kilgallon, Paul Robinson and Dickson Etuhu. That is a big chunk of experience missing from the side.

"They are all progressing well, Dickson and Paul Robinson are doing ever so well. We are happy how everybody is progressing we just need them back."
