Selection poser for Bowyer

15 April 2013

Gary Bowyer has plenty of squad options available ahead of Tuesday's Ewood Park match against Huddersfield Town, kick-off 7.45pm.

Grant Hanley and Colin Kazim-Richards will both serve the first of a two-match suspension after their yellow cards received in the weekend win over Derby County ensured they miss the next two games.

The absence of Hanley at the back alongside captain Scott Dann is a blow as Bowyer believes they are one of the partnerships of the division, but the manager is confident that whoever comes in to replace will be up to the task.

"We've got options, we've Gael Givet who is a good player, a good defender and a fans favourite," said Bowyer on Monday.

"We've also got young Karim who is on loan from Manchester CIty that City view as a very good potential player for them in the future.

"So that gives us options there, whoever comes in has to stand up and put in the level of performance that Grant has produced.

"Obviously the loss of Grant is a blow, he has formed a great partnership with Scott and in my opinion they have been the best pair in the Championship as a centre-half duo."

Givet missed Saturday's win over Derby County with a slight knock picked up in training, but the Frenchman is back and has been impressing the manager at Brockhall.

"Gael is fine, he trained today and he trained very well," added Bowyer.

"He was top goalscorer this morning as well in the round-robin bit of fun that we have so
he's buzzing.

"If it is Gael or Karim that plays then they are both very good defenders and they both can handle the ball, so whoever it is I'm sure they'll give the level of performance that we expect."

Elsewhere Rovers have further good news on the injury front as two more players are now back in training after injury.

"It has been a good day," added the Rovers boss. "We've had David Bentley on the training ground, he's trained for two days and Bradley Orr has trained for the first time today.

"Markus Olsson has trained again, Leon Best has trained again, so the injuries are coming back, the medical and sports science teams are doing a great job."
