Nuno happy with Rovers start

21 September 2012

Star striker Nuno Gomes is delighted with how his English adventure has started.

The Portuguese legend has certainly hit the ground running since his summer move from Sporting Braga, grabbing four goals in four games to help fire Rovers to the top of the npower Championship.

The 36-year-old has settled in quickly and is enjoying the challenges the new league and country have brought.

"I am very happy, things are going well for me and the team, I am happy with this start," said Nuno.

"I didn't expect this, if somebody had told me before the start that I would score four goals in four games maybe I wouldn't believe it.

"But I'm happy with that because I'm helping the team with my goals to help it reach it's goals."

A lot is made of the physical side to the English game, but one aspect that has impressed Nuno is the mentality and the work ethic displayed by the teams.

"Maybe it is a little bit more physical than in Portugal, but in the end it is nearly the same," added Gomes.

"I think the mentality of the players is different, they keep going, they keep working hard and try to get the winner until the end, they don't give up, maybe that is the difference."

Rovers might be top of the league at the moment, but Nuno Gomes readily admits that the team hasn't yet put in the sort of displays he knows the squad is capable of, but he is confident that it will all click into gear soon.

"We are happy with this start and know we have to improve some things but we are working hard on that, we talk about it all the time.

"If we are not playing as well as we want but we are top of the league then it is good. So when we start to play as we want it'll be even better."
