Lowe makes it through

17 October 2012

Jason Lowe was on the winning side on Tuesday night as England's Under-21 progressed through to next summer's UEFA finals.

The Rovers midfielder played the full ninety minutes in Krusevac as a last-minute winner from Connor Wickham earned Stuart Pearce's side a 2-0 aggregate victory.

England will join the Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain and hosts Israel in the finals in early June 2013.

In Kiev Simon Vukcevic started on the substitutes bench as Montenegro pulled off an impressive 1-0 win over the Ukraine.

Dejan Damjanovic scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time as Montenegro kept up their pursuit of England at the top of Group H with the win in the Ukrainian capital.

Vukcevic came on for the last 20 minutes of the match.

The match of the night was in Berlin as Sweden put in an amazing come back to draw 4-4 with Germany.

Martin Olsson watched on from the bench as the home side raced into a four-goal lead, but a dramatic turnaround in the last half hour saw the Swedes grab an unlikely point.

The draw keeps Sweden three points behind Germany but with a game in hand.

In Christchurch, New Zealand defeated Tahiti 3-0. Tim Payne was suspended for the match.
