Rovers Ladies returned to winning ways in the Northern Division with a 3-2 victory away to Derby County.

Goals from Beth Donoghue, Keeleigh Savage and Hannah Forster secured Rovers’ first league win in three games.

Rovers were given an early wake-up call when Derby rattled the bar inside five minutes, but the visitors soon started to take control.

Lagan Makin and Savage both had chances to open the scoring, before Rovers eventually took the lead on 25 minutes. Some good work from Katie Anderton set up Donoghue, who fired into the top corner with her left foot.

Rovers continued to press and had two efforts well saved by the Derby keeper, before they did double their advantage when Savage headed home from a corner just before the break.

The game was even more one-sided after the interval, as Rovers pinned Derby back in their own half. Anderton and Savage both saw shots saved, before Makin crashed an effort against the crossbar.

The visitors’ dominance continued, as Anderton chipped narrowly over from distance and Donoghue flashed a shot across goal.

Rovers’ third eventually arrived through Hannah Forster on 75 minutes, but it could have been any one of three players queuing up to score.

What should have been a comfortable conclusion turned into a frantic finale, as Danielle Whitham headed a Derby corner into her own net on 86 minutes and the hosts pulled another one back three minutes later when Rovers failed to deal with a free-kick.

But the scoreline flattered Derby, as Rovers ran out worthy winners.

Manager Scott Rogers said: “We are delighted, the girls were brilliant today. The scoreline does not reflect the game at all. We could have won by six or seven, but we are delighted with the three points.

“I know that we need to tidy up when seeing a game out, but that is for training. The girls thoroughly deserved the win and it’s great to get back to winning ways in the league. I am hoping we can continue to put another run together.”
