Rovers and Bolton's Under-21 sides played out a goalless draw at the County Ground, Leyland on Monday night.
Just like the corresponding fixture at Ewood back in September there was little between the two sides.
After a quiet opening quarter Rovers' forward Micah Evans had the first effort toward goal, dragging his shot wide of target.
Tim Payne, back from international duty with New Zealand, was next to threaten, firing narrowly over after Osayamen Osawe's run and cross was cleared as far as the Kiwi.
Bolton had rarely encroached the Rovers box but the visitors needed the returning Myles Anderson to keep the scores level on 37 minutes. The central defender, back from his loan spell with Aldershot, clearing from under his own crossbar to keep out Ben Hampson's header.
The chances increased as the first half drew to a close, Hugo Fernandez was a whisker away from scoring from a free-kick before Jake Kean was called upon to deny Marvin Sordell at the other end.
England Under-21 striker Sordell had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring moments after the restart but failed to find the target when put through.
Osayamen Osawe saw a shot across goal deflected narrowly wide then Jay Lynch saved well at his back post after Hugo Fernandez arrived to met Bruno Ribeiro's centre.
Rovers continued to force the pace as the game entered the final stages. Substitute Curtis Haley headed over before Myles Anderson did likewise when he met a Tim Payne free-kick in the final seconds of added time.
It was a hard-working display from both sides, neither deserving of all three points.
