Three in a row for Reserves

26 July 2012

Rovers Reserves made it a hat-trick of friendly wins when they beat Westfields 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The players were put through their paces in a training camp earlier this week before lining against the team from Hereford.

Midfielder Robbie Cotton opened the scoring when he headed in from a Peter Wylie corner.

It wasn’t long before left-back Will Beesley doubled Rovers’ lead, latching on to Cotton’s through ball and calmly sweeping the ball home.

The hosts pulled one back, but Rovers held on for the victory.

“We looked slightly leggy and tired,” said coach Gary Bowyer. “But that was to be expected after a tough three days.

“The lads played some good stuff at times and although our performance was a bit stop-start, I was pleased with how they went about the game. That’s three wins on the bounce now so it has been a promising start.”

Team: Dilo (Urwin), Wylie, O’Connell (O’Connor), Devine, Beesley, Cotton (Hanley), O’Sullivan (Daley), Molina, Laverty (Evans), Osawe (Maclaren), Haley (Slew).
