Blackburn Rovers have this evening completed the signing of Leon Best from Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old striker makes the move from the North East to the North West for a fee of more than £3m, signing a four-year deal.

Born in Nottingham, Best started his professional footballing career at Southampton in 2004 and during three years on the south coast he also enjoyed loan spells at Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth and Yeovil Town before he secured a permanent move to Coventry City in 2007.

The speedy forward would go onto make almost a hundred appearances for the Sky Blues in a three-year spell, scoring on 19 occasions, and it was his record during the 2009/10 season where he scored 10 goals from 26 starts for Coventry that caught the attentions of Newcastle United and he secured a move to the Magpies.

His two years at Newcastle saw him score on 10 occasions from 42 appearances, he also earned full international honours for the Republic of Ireland during that time.

Best becomes Rovers' second transfer of the summer following the signing of Danny Murphy last week, he will wear the coveted number 9 shirt.
