Rovers return to action

21 July 2012

Rovers get their pre-season preparations underway today with a double-header against Lancashire opposition.

After two weeks of intensive training, Rovers return to action with back-to-back games against Accrington Stanley and Fleetwood Town.

Rovers face Fleetwood at 12 noon, before taking on hosts Accrington Stanley at 3pm.

Manager Steve Kean will take a large senior squad to the Crown Ground, which will be split across the two games. New signings Danny Murphy, Leon Best, Nuno Gomes and Fabio Nunes are all expected to feature.

With pre-season friendlies against Rochdale, AEK Athens, Go Ahead Eagles, NEC Nijmegen and Cork City still to come, the Rovers boss is looking forward to a busy and competitive summer schedule.

"What we wanted to do was make sure that every game we play in is a competitive one,” said Steve.

"Against the Dutch sides they'll be different, as they'll try and dictate the possession, so the big emphasis will be to get after the ball and to press and to make sure you look after the ball when you get it.

"Obviously the domestic games are against teams that will be up and at us and trying to prove a point against a club of our stature.

"And our last game will certainly be competitive when we play against Cork City, as they are in the middle of their season, so physically they'll be at the top level.

"So I think it will be a very good pre-season for us."

Supporters can pay on the day at the Crown Ground. Prices for the double-header are £10 for adults, £5 for concessions (over-65s, under-17s and students with ID) and £2 for accompanied under-12s.

Rovers’ Reserves are also in action this afternoon, away to Kendal (kick-off 3pm).

Gary Bowyer’s side kicked off their pre-season preparations with a 3-1 win over Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night.
