New boys make impact in Austria

12 July 2012

Steve Kean insists that his summer signings have already made a huge impact at the club.

Rovers wasted little time in the summer transfer market, bringing in four new faces, and that has allowed the manager to include new boys Danny Murphy, Leon Best, Nuno Gomes and Fabio Nunes in the 25-man squad that has travelled to Austria for a week of intensive training.

"To be able to get all four of our new signings out with us quickly has been a huge boost," said the Rovers’ boss from the Austrian camp.

"Not only have we signed some very talented footballers, but players who know the game inside out. They have bedded in quickly and fitted in really well with the rest of the group. It is going really well over here – tough and demanding, but vital and rewarding."

Based at a world-renowned training camp used by top teams across Europe, the players have enjoyed sunny skies and warm temperatures. But they've had little time to relax with three sessions a day including plenty of high muscle intensity work along with Pilates and yoga.

Grant Hanley and Mark Bunn are making great progress in recovering from the injuries that kept them out of action at the end of last season. Both are taking full part in the sessions.

Bradley Orr, who played through the pain towards the end of the last campaign, is also recovering well from his Achilles operation. Orr will step up his fitness work when the squad return to Brockhall next week.
