Kiwis draw with Egypt

30 July 2012

Rovers’ starlet Tim Payne helped New Zealand gain their first point of the 2012 Olympics, playing a key role in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Egypt at Old Trafford.

Tim, who also started the first match against Belarus, played the full 90 minutes as the Oly Whites gave themselves an outside chance of qualifying for the latter stages.

West Brom’s Chris Wood opened the scoring for New Zealand after 17 minutes, but Egypt forward Mohammed Salah restored parity shortly before half-time.

Tim and his team-mates must now beat Brazil at St. James’ Park on Wednesday in order to progress.
