Mixed fortunes for those on duty

16 August 2012

Three of the Rovers players on international duty on Wednesday evening saw action for their respective countries.

Of those that played, only Simon Vukcevic was on the winning side, the Montenegrin midfielder playing 73 minutes as goals from Stevan Jovetic and Filip Krstic gave them a comfortable 2-0 victory over Latvia in Podgorica.

Morten Gamst Pedersen got 45 minutes under his belt but Norway slipped to a 3-2 loss at home to Greece.

Fulham duo Brede Hangeland and John Arne Riise got the goals for Norway, but strikes from Vassilis Torosidis, Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Kostas Mitroglou saw the Greeks triumph in Olso.

Adam Henley picked up another under 21 cap but he couldn't stop Wales losing 1-0 at home to Armenia in their UEFA qualifier.

An early sending off which resulted in a converted 7th minute penalty was enough for the Armenians to win.

Henley played 74 minutes of the match as Wales remain in third place in their qualification group, four points behind second place Armenia.

The two Rovers players who weren't involved last night were Scottish duo David Goodwillie and Grant Hanley. Goodwillie was an unused substitute whilst Hanley wasn't involved as Scotland defeated Australia 3-1 in Edinburgh.
