Kean hails his goalscorers

27 August 2012

Steve Kean was pleased to see Nuno Gomes and Morten Gamst Pedersen both get on the scoresheet on Saturday.

Portuguese legend Nuno Gomes put Rovers in front against Leicester City, exchanging passes with Jason Lowe before lashing home from the edge of the area.

The Foxes levelled early in the second half, but it was Rovers' longest serving player - Morten Gamst Pedersen - who earned the home side all three points with a tremendous right-foot strike that went in off the far post with just over ten minutes remaining.

Speaking to Radio Rovers after the game, Kean was happy with the contribution of both players.

"Nuno almost scored one very similar down at Ipswich when it was cut back to a similar area," said Kean.

"It is something we work on a lot, when you've got a shadow striker he ends up on the 'D', at Ipswich he mis-hit one, but he caught that one beautifully this time.

"He is a quality player and it was good to get him off at the end to keep him fresh.

"Morten was excellent again today.

"He was winning his headers and his set-plays were excellent as always.

"And what a goal to score, he took it onto his 'bad foot' and stuck it in off the post. It was a great finish."

Rovers are back in action this Tuesday night when they take on MK Dons in the 2nd round of the Capital One Cup.
