Humphreys brace downs Carlisle

6 August 2012

Academy forward Ryan Humphreys was amongst the goals once more as the under 18s defeated Carlisle United 4-0 on Saturday.

The young striker had bagged a hat-trick in the 6-2 win over Macclesfield Town in their previous outing and added a fine brace as Terry McPhillips' side won once more.

Rovers led at the break after a lovely through ball from Callum Harris played in Humphreys to score the first but it was the second half where the home side took control.

Modou Cham added a second before Jordan Preston and Humphreys added to the goal tally for a convincing result.

Academy coach Terry McPhillips said of the win: "I thought we started well, but then they came into it and David Raya has had to make some good saves.

"In the second we stepped it up and scored some good goals.

"It was a decent work out, it doesn't look like we picked up any injuries."

ROVERS: Raya, Anderson, Wassi, Thompson, Butterwick, Brown, Boland, Harris, Humphreys, Preston, Rittenberg.

Subs: Cham, Birch, Bauress, Vicars, Patterson.

The under 18s are back in action this Tuesday when they take on Preston North End at 10:30am. This game now takes place at Brockhall.
