A brace from Felix Nmecha went a long way to ensuring Manchester City brushed aside a young Rovers team following a 3-0 victory at the Academy Stadium in Manchester.
The hosts included one-time £42m defender Eliaquim Mangala in their starting XI, with the France international playing the first half for the home side.
First team pair Paul Downing both played the full 90 minutes for Rovers, who were 2-0 down at the break.
Nmecha pounced 18 minutes into the contest as he latched onto Argentina forward Benjamin Garre's pass to fire past Ollie Byrne in the Rovers goal.
The provider then turned scorer five minutes before half time when he smashed home following some neat footwork.
Into the second half, Rovers did search for a way back into the game, with Hayden Carter keeping Tom Scott busy with a headed effort that was superbly kept out by the City custodian.
At the other end, Taylor Richards twice went close before the hosts put the game to bed with 11 minutes remaining.
Nmecha stepped up to find the net direct from a free kick to end the game in style for the Citizens and send Rovers back to East Lancashire empty handed.
Rovers are next in action on Friday 9th November in the Premier League Cup when Everton make the trip to Leyland. Kick-off at the Lancashire FA HQ is at 7pm.
