A penalty from Okera Simmonds was all it took for Damien Johnson's Development Squad to earn a second successive pre-season friendly victory as they narrowly defeat Chorley.
Simmonds struck just after half time after he himself was taken down in the box by Chorley centre back Andy Teague, and that was enough for Johnson's side to earn the win at AFC Darwen's Anchor Ground.
It was a tough test for the youngsters, against a Chorley side who had a great season in 2017-18; finishing 6th in the National League North.
The heat meant the game struggled to flow, with a lack of chances for both sides at Darwen.
Chorley's best opportunity came in the first half, when brothers Elliot Newby and Alex Newby teamed up, but the effort from the latter flew past the post.
After the break, the most notable action came four minutes into the half, and after being taken down, Simmonds dusted himself off before cooly scoring from the spot to win the game.
