A late brace from home attacker Layton Ndukwu helped Leicester City Under-23s to a convincing win against Rovers Under-23s on Monday evening.

After Raul Uche's opener, Okera Simmonds grabbed an equaliser just after half time. The Foxes turned on the style in the second half, with Poland international Bartosz Kapustka notching just three minutes after Simmonds' equaliser.

With Rovers pushing late on to level up the scores, Ndukwu struck twice in the final 11 minutes to earn a comprehensive win for the home side, under the watchful eye of first team boss Claude Puel.

The home side included new signing Caglar Soyuncu in their line up, with the Turkish international signing for a reported £20m fee this summer.

Also in the side was highly-rated Polish schemer Kapustka, who has 14 caps for his country.

Due to suspension to Charley Doyle and injury to Tyler Magloire, Damien Johnson again had to shuffle the pack in defence, with John Buckley continuing in the unfamiliar right back role.

A lively start from the hosts forced Rovers to defend resolutely, with the impressive Ndukwu testing Andy Fisher after Uche had cracked the post.

But the Spanish striker wasn't to be denied and scored the only goal in the half when he headed home a Kapustka free kick.

Whatever Johnson said to his side at the break certainly worked, as Simmonds lashed home just three minutes into the half via a slight deflection to level up the scores.

But the hosts responded well and Kaputska regained the lead for his side as he scored from close range just a couple of minutes later.

Ndukwu was desperate for a goal and went close a number of times and hit the post before finally finding the net with 11 minutes remaining.

His strike took a huge deflection of Sam Barnes and nestled into the net to hand the home side a two-goal advantage before scoring his second and Leicester's fourth of the evening in added time.

Rovers are next in action on Monday 3rd September when Everton visit Leyland in Premier League 2. Kick-off is at 7pm at the Lancashire FA HQ.
